Meditation Minute – The Divine

I have given the concept of the Divine a lot of thought. The God of my childhood never made sense to me. I was raised in the Christian Religion. While the church was Presbyterian, I wouldn’t call it a typical representation of that branch of religion.

Throughout my life I have searched for meaning and the Divine, for that connection to the idea and closeness, protection, and love from the Divine. I had not found it until now. I do not believe I have all of the answers, nor do I believe that I have found the One answer to this question. I have found some answers that resonate with me, and some other people I know.

There is a collective energy that is the essence of what I consider God. God is not one soul. God is all souls, in all of their forms, completely connected as one soul. This idea of God is hard for humans to imagine because we see such separateness in the physical world that we also believe that the spiritual world is separated into different “beings” also. It isn’t. Even the physical world isn’t actually separate beings and things. It is energy, and the energy of everything is connected creating one energy source that is also connected to the energy of the spiritual realm, again, one soul, one energy, God.

Humans both want to be in control and also not be in control. A single Divine entity allows for this. When we can’t explain something it must be God. When we  understand it and it makes sense, that must be us. They are both us, and they are both God. God is us, all of us, everything.

The sense of separateness that was created by God, is here for a reason, to experience. Without the apparent separateness, experiences are limited to one. Separate the one energy into different versions of itself, it becomes more interesting, varied, unique, and creates multiple options for experiencing both self and other. Imagine the beginning. One energy, one soul, alone, conscious, but alone, completely alone. What would you do?

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be divided into parts. Each of those parts stays connected to the original source with a bond that cannot be broken. If they take a particle of energy, separate it somehow and move those parts across the world from one another, then effect one part with something, they see the same affect in the other part across the world. If you look around you, you can see this in everything. There is nothing that one human can do or be that does not affect something or someone else, which affects someone or something else over and over into infinity.

What is the nature of God? What is the Divine? Look around you. Look within you. That is where you will find it. It is not a him, or a her. God is not a one thing or being. God is everything. The Divine is everywhere and in everything. The Divine, God, is They, Us, We. The beauty and love all around. The chaos and pain everywhere. All of that is God, Divine, and designed by us. For what purpose, to experience life as fully as we can, to experience everything, and by everything, I mean absolutely everything.

I do not believe that the world called Earth has achieved that goal of an everything experience. We are working on it, and we have created and experienced a great deal. I believe one experience that we are all seeking is the ability to feel the physical separation we desire in order to have experiences at all, at the same time we feel the complete oneness that is truly our nature and where we came from.

That sense of complete is difficult to find. I have experienced it in very fleeting moments, and then it is lost to only feeling separate again. I know that many humans have accomplished this in their lifetime, and sustained it. I hope that I get to do that myself as a consistent feeling. I think where we are going as a collective though, is that all of us are able to feel this all of the time. When we get there, that will be the end goal and reason for being for all of us. I don’t know what’s next after that. When you consider all beings across all of the universe both in the physical dimensions and spiritual dimensions feeling their unique separateness and also their collective connection all at once, that might take a bit of time to achieve. It actually seems so overwhelming to feel that oneness while also being separate, it might actually take a very long time to get everyone there. Even to me, it seems scary the power that would create, but that idea of scary power is a human thing. It is me being separate from the idea of the Divine. I’m not there yet.

Today’s mantra: I am one with the Divine, God, the collective energy of the universe, physical and spiritual realms (choose the idea that works for you). My energy is connected to everyone and everything. We are one. We are love. We are the Divine. (It’s okay if this idea feels big and overwhelming. Try to just sit with it and allow what comes from being there.)
